Hold on, I owe you an apology
Though I doubt this lyric you'll ever see.
You stood behind a window and I wanted to leap
Out of my truck and sweep you from your feet
And say, I'm sorry I failed. I need your forgiveness.
I can't look back and believe I did this,
Being naive I didn't give you the care
That you should have had despite my holy airs.
It's true, in all regards I failed-
A legalistic copycat but without the tale.
And being half-assed I was but half true,
Deepening the pain and lying to you.
I hid my impotence behind a righteous sheet.
Giving advice that you didn't really need,
Looking down on your mess from a lofty position,
Who really wants help from a malpractice physician?
You really just needed an open ear
With an open heart to dispel any fear
Of rejection that might have come between
You and your relationship to everything.
You were looking for a center and I shooed you away
By talking of me, us, this way, that day.
Instead of working to rig my foolish game
I should I have bared a shoulder and given you the Name.
And you were lost, drifting on uncharted seas.
I thought I'd be dashing and sweep you away with me.
But I landed on your deck with a SMACK, face-first.
You cut me down to size and my hull was burst.
I couldn't measure up to even little expectations.
But thanks to the failure I've had a revelation-
Family and past shouldn't even cause a bother
You and I are just the same, we're both beneath the Father.
So it's up to you to accept my apology.
I give it willing and I give it free
Because I too depend on frequent second chances
And I'd ask one of you if it would it heal the damage.
I hope you find love and I hope grace finds you
Its the only thing in the world that is constantly true.
So to the ones who I once wished goodnight,
I wish you joy, peace, and good light.
